The University of Cambridge is a collegiate university with admissions decisions made by the individual Colleges, who may have their own individual requirements. Minimum offer levels are 41-42 points out of 45, with 776 in Higher Level subjects. The following Colleges usually make IB offers above the minimum offer level: Churchill, Corpus Christi, and Selwyn. Some Colleges may ask you to achieve 777 or a higher points total. You may also be required to achieve 7 in particular subjects. Standard Level subjects will meet our AS level subject requirements. Higher Level subjects will meet A level subject requirements. See our course pages for details of the IB requirements at individual Colleges.
For any course where Mathematics is a requirement, IB applicants are expected to take IB Higher Level 'Analysis and Approaches'. If this option is not available at your school, please contact the College that you wish to apply to directly for further advice and guidance.
Students will need to demonstrate, through their application, that they have sufficient command of English to cope with an academic interview in the language and should be on course to achieve C1 standard within the CEFR by the time of admission, if they have not already done so. Normally, any offer is likely to include an appropriate English Language condition, based on assessors’ judgement of an applicant’s qualifications, written assessment or pre-submitted written work, interview performance and educational background. This condition may be based on a specific level of achievement in a secondary school qualification, or in an approved secure English Language test at the admitting College’s discretion.
Colleges are aware that international applicants will sometimes be able to provide application profiles that include a combination of different qualification types (eg AP Tests, A Levels, IB Higher Level Courses). Colleges will assess these on a case-by-case basis, but applicants should be aware that a very high level of attainment will be required. Please contact the College you wish to apply to for further guidance on the suitability of your University qualifications for following one of these routes.
Applicants taking the International Baccalaureate Careers-Related programme with three Higher Level Diploma subjects should contact the admissions office of the College that they are interested in applying to for advice regarding the suitability of their qualifications for making a competitive application for their chosen course.
