American University of Sharjah (AUS) is an independent, non-profit, coeducational institution formed on the American liberal arts model. All classes and administrative functions are conducted in English. AUS has designated funds available for highly qualified undergraduate students with limited financial resources. Admitted students may apply for a financial grant regardless of their race, color, gender, religion, or national origin. New first-time students at AUS may qualify for a financial grant, a merit-based scholarship, and a Family Tuition Grant (awarded to the younger sibling when a family enrolls two or more children at AUS) to cover up to a total of 55 percent of tuition and fees.* After their first semester, students may also qualify for additional scholarships.
AUS admits applicants awarded the full IB Diploma with six subjects (excluding Islamic Education) with at least three in the higher level and attain a minimum score of 24 points. Applicants who were not awarded the IB Diploma but received the IB certificate can apply and will be assessed based on the provided high school credentials.
Applicants achieving a minimum score of 5 in IB - Higher Level Mathematics are exempted from the Math Placement Test
Applicants achieving a score of 6 in IB - Higher Level English A (Language and Literature) are exempted from the English Placement Test. However, all applicants are required to submit a recognized English proficiency score report for admission purposes (For example, TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 80)
Admitted applicants who achieve a minimum grade equivalent to B in their IB Higher Level may be awarded course credits for freshman-level courses. Admitted applicants seeking transfer credits and who have met the above condition must submit a copy of their original secondary school certificate(s) attested by the UAE Ministry of Education or the appropriate authority, along with a copy of the AUS Letter of Admission, to the Office of the Registrar. For courses not listed in the table below where grades equivalent to B or higher were achieved, a course syllabus must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar for consideration of transferability. Admitted applicants who submit their documents before their first semester of study will have their documents evaluated for credit transfer.
