Students who have completed and passed the full IB Diploma (or plan to do so within the coming year) with any subject and level combination may apply. We review applications through a holistic admissions process and have no minimum score requirements or subject requirements for any major.
Students can apply to all programs with any math subject (AA/AI) at any level (HL/SL). We do not have any major-specific subject requirements, but HL Math is generally considered more competitive for direct entry to the College of Engineering or School of Business.
We require a minimum of two years of world language study at the high school level (grades 9-12) for admissions. IB HL, SL, and ab initio courses count towards this requirement.
IB Diploma students are a great fit for UW-Madison because they have a rigorous, well-rounded high school foundation that sets them up for success in our classrooms. IB students also tend to have a strong sense of intellectual curiosity and global citizenship that aligns with our institutional mission and the Wisconsin Idea.
We award college credit for scores of 4 and above in HL subjects.
We accept DP courses for college credit (HL with score of 4 or above), but students must be earning a US high school diploma or equivalent secondary school credential to meet university admission requirements.
The IB CP is seen as a recognized high school diploma that meets our minimum requirements for admission. However, in order to be competitive students should go beyond the minimum academic requirements, for example taking 2+ HL courses or pursuing other advanced rigor such as AP, A-level, or dual-enrollment.
Advanced standing credit is awarded for Higher Level (HL) exams only, with scores of 4 or above. Students who receive an IB Diploma with a minimum score of 28 are eligible for 3 additional elective credits, in recognition of the DP core. IB transcripts must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment from the International Baccalaureate Organization in order to receive credit.
