Bradley University is a top-ranked, private university in Peoria, Ill., offering students a personalized, transformative experience to prepare them for future success. With more than 100 programs, a student faculty ratio of 11:1, and experiential learning opportunities for 100% of students, Bradley offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate academic programs including business, communication, education, engineering, fine arts, health sciences, liberal arts and sciences, and technology.
In the spring and summer of 2025, Bradley completed a comprehensive review of the IB curricula, and we refreshed how we award Department credit and Core-Curriculum credit for the various IB exams. We were deeply impressed by the depth of learning in the IB Core Curriculum, especially by the “Theory of Knowledge” course, which we discovered was an in-depth course in the philosophic discipline of epistemology. We therefore give 3 hours of credit, as well as a Humanities credit, for successful completion of that challenging course. For students who also complete the Extended Essay with a grade of C or better, we give Advanced Writing credit for the combination of ToK and the Extended Essay. Our Core Curriculum also requires Writing Intensive and Experiential Learning experiences, but for any student who completes the Diploma Program, we waive those requirements on account of the Writing Intensive nature of all IB course, and Experiential Learning required in the IB Core.
In addition to the equivalencies students receive for each subject area course they successfully complete, DP students can receive additional credit based on their successful completion of the IB Core Curriculum. Students with a grade of C or higher in the Theory of Knowledge course receive 3 hours of elective credit, as well as a Humanities credit in our Core Curriculum.
Our Math Department has closely reviewed structure and learning objectives of the IB math program. For the SL sequence of “Math: Analysis and Approaches,” students receive variable course credit depending on how high they score on the exam, with a score of 6-7 earning 7 hours of credit (Pre-Calculus and Elementary Statistics”). For the HL sequence of “Analysis and Approaches,” a score of 6-7 earns 7 hours of credit (Calculus I and Elementary Statistics). All scores 4 or above also earn two “Quantitative Reasoning” credits in the Bradley Core Curriculum. For the IB course in “Math: Application and Interpretation,” all scores 4 or above receive 6 hours of course credit (The Art of Mathematical Thinking and Elementary Statistics), as well as two Quantitative Reasoning credits in the Bradley Core Curriculum.
Bradley University has long admitted students from IB programs, and invariably we discover that these students a devoted to learning and enthusiastic about research and about creating NEW knowledge. The work ethic that they cultivated in high school carries over to college and grows. This is why we have been creative and innovative in finding the appropriate way of granting course credit for the unique learning goals of the IB curriculum and the IB Core.
Bradley recognizes the effort and dedication it takes to succeed in IB courses even if students are not pursuing the full diploma program. Therefore, we grant the same equivalencies per course for students who complete DP courses as we grant students who complete the courses as part of their DP.
Bradley University recognizes the IB for credit, if it meets certain, specific criteria .
